I am passionate about providing therapy that promotes emotional, psychological and spiritual well-being. I believe in treating the whole person (mind, body and spirit) who is connected to bigger systems of family, friends, community and society. I provide therapy to individual, couples and families experiencing challenging circumstances, and who are looking for a supportive place for positive change and growth. I am a registered psychotherapist (qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario. I am a graduate of the Masters of Science in Couples and Family Therapy program at the University of Guelph. As well, I am a member with the Ontario Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (OAMFT).
I began my first career as a Registered Nurse 20 years ago in the Kitchener-Waterloo area and bring this extensive experience in working with people going through many life challenges and transitions to my private practice. I am committed to healthy couple and family relationships both professionally and personally, and have been doing life in a committed relationship with my husband and teenage children.
I believe that as humans we are wired for connection and relationship, and I work to create a safe, non-judgmental, and compassionate environment where you can be yourself and feel comfortable discussing any issues, big or small.
My goal is to help you achieve a sense of balance and fulfillment in personal and professional relationships. I enjoy working collaboratively, from a client focused, and strengths based perspective, where your unique strengths, characteristics and values are part of the solution. Together, we can come up with a plan to help you achieve your life and relationship goals. I have experience working with adolescents and adults who present with such concerns as:
• Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Self-esteem and self-worth issues
• Loss, Grief
• Coping with Diagnoses
• First-Responder concerns and vicarious trauma for their family members
• Parenting Issues, Blended & multi-stressed families
• PTSD, Childhood trauma/Abuse
• Couple and relationship counselling (communication, sexual problems, intimacy and affairs)…and more.
I like to use an integrative approach tailored to my client’s needs and goals. I work from an attachment based focus, and a trauma informed lens to bring insight into how significant life events shape our lives. I use principles and techniques from Narrative therapy, and Solution Focused therapy.
When working with couples, I often see them stuck in interaction patterns that seem difficult to change. I use principles from Emotionally-Focused Therapy and the Gottman Method to help identify ineffective communication patterns, and learn ways to improve connection, emotional and sexual intimacy, and satisfaction.
I also have extensive post-graduate training in EMDR through the Niagara Stress and Trauma Clinic and provide a safe and comfortable setting for the reprocessing of traumatic memories.
An additional emphasis I provide is the integration of faith and spirituality with mental health and relationship issues, to those who desire such a focus.
My office is located in the lovely country setting of St.Agatha, less than 10 minutes west of Waterloo (a few minutes West of Waterloo Costco and Herrle’s Market).
