I am a Registered Social Worker, in good standing, with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers along with the Ontario Association of Social Workers.
I believe that each individual has their own unique life story and journey. My philosophy is that through self-awareness and deep self-reflection, a person can find their authentic self, build resiliency and find balance in their emotional, mental and physical well-being. It is often true that there are times in our lives when we need someone to support and guide us through this process.
As someone who has come from an immigrant family, I have an understanding of the impact of immigrant concerns and cultural sensitivity. I have lived in the Kitchener- Waterloo and the diversity of this region has allowed me to learn significantly about other cultures, ethnicities and diverse populations. I grew up speaking English, French and Gujerati and my love for languages inspired me to continue learning other languages throughout my Post Secondary Education. I hold a diploma in Law Enforcement from Conestoga College, a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Waterloo and a Master of Social Work degree from Wilfrid Laurier University. I value life long learning as I continue to learn and grow in my professional practice. I also highly value self-reflection as I believe that therapists have an obligation to know themselves well.
Much of my professional work has been with individuals facing mental health challenges such as schizophrenia, anxiety and depression. My personal experience with loss and as a primary caregiver compliments my knowledge and understanding of the challenges and compassion fatigue faced by individuals in a similar role.
I believe in the importance of cultivating a good therapeutic relationship between myself and my clients as this is fundamental to effective therapy. I work with individuals ages 18 and up. I provide a genuine, warm and supportive approach so that my clients have a safe and comfortable space in which to open up and unpack issues that can sometimes feel daunting.
I work from a person-centered, strengths based and non- judgmental perspective that is flexible and adaptive to the needs of my clients. My approach is eclectic and includes ways to help my clients recognize and work through their limiting core beliefs, negative patterns and uncomfortable thoughts and feelings. I assist my clients in viewing their issues from different perspectives and in developing new, healthy and interactive ways to live their lives with balance and better their relationship with themselves and with others. I walk alongside my clients on their journey of growth and authenticity and provide them not only with insight, but also with helpful tools, coping strategies and problem solving techniques.
I have worked with individuals experiencing:
-communication issues and relationship conflict (with partner, family member, co-worker)
-career dilemmas and work stress
-school related dilemmas
-grief and loss
– feeling lost and confused
-low self esteem, sense of self, lack of self worth
