Background Information

Let’s face it, sometimes life can feel overwhelming and we can benefit from compassion and support. I believe that people with strong support systems have a better chance of moving toward whatever goals they choose. As an experienced counsellor, it is my intention to journey with you; neither pushing you ahead nor pulling you along, but walking beside you offering compassion, perspective, and tools to support you in your growth.

I have lived, worked and volunteered in Waterloo Region all my life – growing up in New Hamburg, Ontario, and now residing with my family in Waterloo. I have pursued post-secondary education at both of our local universities: undergraduate studies in Arts at University of Waterloo and a graduate degree in Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University. I am a registered social worker who is passionate about being of service to others and giving back to my community. In addition to my professional practice at Southern Ontario Counselling Centre, I work at Wilfrid Laurier University. I have also volunteered with Hospice of Waterloo Region and have worked at Epilepsy Waterloo-Wellington as well as local elementary schools teaching emotional management tools to children.

My Practice

In my work as a counsellor, I work with children, teens and adults who are struggling with a variety of challenges. Some of these include anxiety, depression, grief, parent/child or other relationship conflicts, work and/or family stress, and gender or sexual orientation concerns. I am trained in and sensitive to a wide range of life situations including LGBTQ, new Canadians, those living with disabilities, and all age groups from young children to the elderly. I am committed to continuing my education and skills development; I have completed additional training in EMDR and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. I am also trained in and teach a number of mental health and suicide prevention workshops.

An important first step in my sessions with you is to listen without judgment, in a respectful and compassionate manner. My approach is to work with you to help you discover what you need to move forward. The topics discussed and the pace of our sessions will be determined by your needs. I approach my work with integrity, respect, and responsible management of the information you share with me. I hope that you will feel safe and comfortable when working with me.

Office Information

I work out of Waterloo in a lovely old house at 156 King Street South. I am typically in my office Monday and Tuesday evenings. You can reach me by calling our number, 519.746.2323, ext 307 or my cell at 519.589.9115. Please leave whatever information you wish, including instructions for me when returning your call, as this is my personal, confidential voicemail. I will return your call as soon as I am able and we can decide, together, how best to proceed. My fee is $120.00 for a 50 minute session. Many E.A.P.’s and extended health care plans will pay for the services of someone with an M.S.W. I reserve some time to work with those individuals who cannot pay my full rate due to financial constraints.
